The Christmas Music Playlist that will Fill your Christmas Spirit

Christmas is just around the corner. Love it or hate it, there’s no escaping Christmas songs playing everywhere, from coffee shops to grocery stores, and the entire radio stations. They make it seem like sleigh bells are endlessly ringing. Music has long been part of the cultural phenomenon of Christmas, says Matthew Mugmon, assistant professor of music at the University of Arizona’s Fred Fox School of Music. We all deserve to be with our families this upcoming Christmas and listen to Christmas songs, as we have suffered enough due to the pandemic.

Celebrating it does not mean that we have to have a house full of Christmas decorations or lots of gifts. It is all about spending our time with our family. Also, let us not forget why we are celebrating the Christmas season, which is the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Christmas season won’t be complete without Christmas music. So, here is my all-time favorite songs to play during this yuletide season that ranges from the 1900s up to now.

1. White Christmas (1942) According to Guinness World of Records, White Christmas is sung by Bing Crosby is the best-selling single of all time.

2. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (1944) Judy Garland originally recorded this soft Christmas song for the musical Meet Me in St. Louis, which is about four daughters coming of age while getting ready to move to New York.

3. The Christmas Song (1946) Everyone knows this holiday song, so it barely needs a name — it's the one where Nat King Cole sings, "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire." It's so popular that it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1974.

4. Frosty the Snowman (1947) The performer behind this song is Gene Autry. He’s also the one who sang “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”. So, it’s a voice we’ve been attached to ever since we were a little kid.

5. Santa Baby (1953) This cheeky song by Eartha Kitt is about wanting some pretty extravagant Christmas gifts. Even though this is a holiday tune, it's one of her most well-known songs ever.

6. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree (1958) Brenda Lee was only 13 years old when she recorded this holiday favorite. She probably wouldn't have guessed that people would still be listening to it today.

7. Feliz Navidad (1970) Puerto Rican singer José Feliciano's upbeat song has easy-to-remember lyrics in both Spanish and English, making it the best bi-lingual Christmas song. This is mostly used for Christmas caroling too.

8. Deck the Halls (1984) The electric guitar in this Mannheim Steamroller song is nothing short of iconic. Expect to hear it in commercials, at restaurants, and in the background of holiday lights shown all season long.

9. Santa Claus is Coming to Town (1985) Just give this Bruce Springsteen song a listen, and you'll instantly realize why he's called "The Boss." It's the most energetic performance of this classic holiday song out there.

10. Last Christmas (1984) Wham! Is the one who sung this song. Even though the song reflects the bitterness and vulnerability of a betrayed romantic, it’s still fun to sing.

11. All I Want Is You (1994) This song hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts at the end of 2019, 25 years after it was originally recorded.

12. Jingle Bells Rock (1957) Is a popular song released by Bobby Helmes in 1957.

13. Jingle Bells (1960) Ella Fitzgerald's jazzy rendition of this Christmas classic is a holiday staple. A harmonica version of it was actually the first song ever played in outer space, according to the Smithsonian.

14. Santa Tell Me (2014) No one wants a holiday romance that fizzles out with the champagne on New Year's Day — and that's exactly what Ariana Grande sings about in this tune.

These are just some of the Christmas songs in my playlist. Most of the classic Christmas songs have modern-day versions right now, I love listening to them too. Whenever I listen to it, it gives me warmth inside. I hope you listen to them!
