Have you ever read a book this quarantine? What do you prefer, fictional or non-fictional? If you like fiction, what genre does interests you? You might be thinking that I'm too nosy or a little curious, but I actually have something to recommend to you about. It is Jeanne DuPrau's book, The City of Ember. But, why read this?
Well, The City of Ember has a lot to offer from brave and strong characters to its exciting sequence of events. For a heads up, it is about a city which is located underground. The only energy source to power the whole place is a generator, which is beginning to fail. So, here are the things that you need to know why you should read this.
1. Assignment Day
In school, we were given the assignment to answer at home which will be submitted for the next day. In The City of Ember, assignment day is not your typical deadline of requirements, but it is the day when high school students pick their job in a bag. Interesting? I know. And believe me, it's not the usual jobs that we want to have in the future.
2. The Instructions
Naturally, an instruction serves as the guide of a person to do his/her task. Well, there is no difference in its function in the story. The Instructions is still a guide but it is locked in a metal box that is supposed to be opened after 200 years. Due to the city's source failure, the main characters accidentally discovered the box and led them to seek what's beyond the City of Ember.
3. Black out
Black out is the period where lights are off in our homes because of the failure in electrical power. This sometimes happens to us and it's actually okay, but when a blackout occurs to the whole city of Ember, it's a horrifying event. Everything is pitch black, just total darkness. Imagine how scary it would be to live in a place where the sky is pitchy and ebony.
4. The Builders
Builders make houses, bridges, or buildings. The underground Ember City was actually built by them. But why? For what reason? Why build it underground? Well, the answer is in the book. So, better read it yourself and discover what's the reason behind it.
5. The City of Ember
A city where everything depends on electric power. Unbelievably, people in this city are ignorant of candles, matches, and boats. Color pencils are expensive than the food they eat. And, their mayor is absolutely greedy. Yes, this is the story of a mysterious underground city.
Indeed, reading a book sharpens your creative side through the imaginative formation. The City of Ember will surely satisfy your taste in books, and I believe that you'll love everything about it especially Lina and Doon. So, start reading now and discover the secret of Ember city.
