Online Class: My College Struggle

Education never stops. This quote best explains how learning cannot be bothered by any circumstances in the world. Due to this pandemic, online class is the new method of teaching. Different opinions about this were posted online, both positive and negative. And these posts have one thing in common, the effect of this new educational method to everyone.

As I scroll through my Facebook feed, majority of my friends share memes or rant about online class. They would oppose to this idea as they believe that it is costly and inconvenient. But there are some that would agree about this new mode of learning for it would bring education to the next level. Well, we are living in a diverse world so this topic is on the hot seat, being grilled for weeks now. But as a student, where do I stand? I know how hard this current type of learning is, I am experiencing it myself. I only have my smartphone with me and it's actually fine. But providing for my internet connection every time our instructors would require us to meet virtually or I would download some files to answer is way too expensive for me. Although my parents have nothing to say about this, I feel burdened with the situation. Knowing how hard it is to earn some money these days make me wonder how far would my father go just to sustain my needs.

In addition, poor internet connection or worst, unreachable signal for some is another problem. In connection with this, CNN Philippines made an opinion regarding of how academic freeze would be the best option for now. It was stated in their article dated June 1, 2020 that if the government push this mode of learning, a digital divide would clearly reappear. I strongly believe that no student should be left behind. But knowing how everything would end up, I guess some would be left out.

Aside from the weekly cost and bad internet, I also feel like studying at home is stressing me out this semester. In spite of the fact that self-study is the most effective way, the environmental noise is too much that even writing an essay is not easy at all. I even took a week writing this blog because I can't concentrate with this loud neighborhood. I am easily distracted so I always prefer to stop than to continue. I admit that I am a slacker but the thing that keeps me procrastinating is the idea of not being monitored and the distractions that I am experiencing.

So, these are some of the reasons why online class is a virtual stress. Let's face it, everyone might be weary in the process and some would lose their interest in learning. However, as we view it in a bigger context, this new mode is experimental. Although many would disagree and support #AcademicFreeze, still, time is gold and we should continue to where we are and what we are doing. All I ask right now is the end of this pandemic and the normality of classes.
