Music is the universal language of mankind. It is so wonderful how music can bring a lot of memories from the past. While you are mesmerized by the melody, you’ll realize how time flies so fast. Despite all the EDM music topping the music charts, there’s a genre that seems to be climbing up to the top. Music is timeless, no wonder why 90s music is coming back.
With the noticeable amount of people who prefers to listen to retro music, music producers came up with the idea to bring back the old music soul into the present time. Newtro is a combination of the word “New” and “Retro” which is a music genre that mix the modern and retro sound. The music genre Newtro has a wide range of selections, from Melancholic Ballad to even Electropop.
Dua Lipa’s album “Future Nostalgia” is influenced by the 90s vibe. By listening to her songs “Physical” and “Break My Heart”, you’ll immediately recognize the splash of the 90s with the beat. Along with her music, she is also wearing clothes that are on-trend during the 90s in her music videos.
With the huge wave of Hallyu, K-pop groups are also getting a taste of this Newtro vibe. The group Everglow recently released their new song titled “La DI Da” which radiates a whole 90s feel with an MV that looks like a scene from Batman’s “Gotham City”.
Here in the Philippines, we also have IV of Spades. Not only their haircuts that remind us of the 90s but also their songs. Their song, “Come Inside of My Heart” is just one of their popular works. With an indie beat paired with their 90s music video, it is such a perfect combo that even our parents would love to jam with it.
History repeats itself and one of the pieces of evidence that it happened is the revival of the 90s music. Newtro can be mainstream sooner or later. Let us all meet and jam with the past in this present time.
