Dancing Tips to Make You a Better Dancer

“To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful… This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking” - Agnes De Mille

Have you ever watched a dance performance at your school that you ended up being so amazed? You got so amazed to the point where you also wanted to learn dancing. Worry no more because in this blog I’ll be giving you 4 common mistakes dancers do so you can avoid them as you learn to dance.

1. Incorrect breathing

We are breathing through everything we do in our daily lives and the same thing must be applied to dancing. By not breathing correctly while dancing, your moves won’t flow with each other and it will end up making you look so stiff and awkward. The next time you find yourself moving stiffly, just know when to breathe so you can execute the moves properly.

2. Moving but not dancing

There's a difference between a singer who hits all the notes and a singer that pours their heart and soul into their voice. We often think that being clean or getting the moves makes someone a good dancer but that can only take you so far, you need to get in your feels. Get on your feels so your audience would see you engaging and entertaining. Express your moves by putting your feelings and emotions on it. Vibe with the song and own the stage.

3. Fixed Mindset

If you fear change, then you won’t be able to handle challenges. The reason why a lot of “okay” dancers stay as “okay” and never quite get to be “great” is because they listen to the same song from day to night and stay with the same dancing genre for such a long period. It surely feels great to be good at things, but you have to have that will to be a beginner again to improve your knowledge and skills and avoid staying a whack.

4. Not open for critiques

In order to improve, you have to be open and welcome for critiques. If someone gives negative feedback, of course, you'll feel butthurt at that moment, but reflect on it later and say "okay, what can I learn from this?" And that is a sign of maturity. It is also your way to know what and where you should work on.
